João Gilberto's way of singing, warm, soft, no-frills; the syncopated rhythm with which Gilberto plucks his guitar; Tom Jobim's sophisticated harmonies and essential arrangements, certainly different from the traditional Samba-cançoes; lyrics aimed at finding the right phonetics to match the sounds. Bossa Nova not only changed music, but also Brazilian culture, becoming a way of being, a way of life. Anything that exuded a positive image, such as a beautiful woman, was called bossanova, a new language that entered the local language in a big way. Bossanova harmoniously combined the exuberant joy of samba with the profound refinement of jazz, embodying the characteristic Brazilian lifestyle: a mixture of positivity, sunniness and joyful attitude, interwoven with a deep sense of romanticism and nostalgia.
