Agarwood, also known as oud, is a resinous heartwood that forms in Aquilaria trees growing in Southeast Asia. When the trees are infected by a specific type of mold, they produce a dark aromatic resin – oud – which thickens in the bark. Essential oil is then extracted from the resin, possessing its characteristic animalic, woody, and
smoky scent. Due to its scarcity and rarity, oud is highly valued today.
