There are various qualities of vetiver, with the most renowned being vetiver from Haiti, vetiver bourbon from the Ile de la Réunion, and vetiver from Java. Depending on the type of terrain in which it grows and its exposure to the sun, each species presents different olfactory nuances. Due to its richness in facets and the complexity of the scents it can evoke, vetiver has always fascinated perfumers. The essential oil is extracted through steam
distillation of the roots, which are washed, cut, and left to dry in the sun. Harvesting is done manually between December and September. The plants, deprived of their roots, are then replanted to be cultivated again.
